The Sanko-an Zen hermitage is a very small Soto Zen center in the beautiful Swiss mountains of the canton of Valais. With breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps and nestled in the historic Raspille mountain pasture, Sanko-an is located in a natural and healing setting, perfect for a retreat or Zen practice.

We practice in the Soto Zen tradition, which originated in Japan, and follow the special style of our three immediate ancestors: Kodo Sawaki, Kosho Uchiyama and Shohaku Okumura.
We are a very small community. Some of us are lay practitioners, only a few are ordained monks or nuns, but we all practice the same rituals and walk the Zen path together. Everyone, whether beginner or experienced practitioner, is welcome.
